“Blondin” - 1994
6.5m x 3m x 3m
steel, zinc sprayed, bronze coated, patinated
informal sign, central reservation, Ladywood Middleway,
Birmingham
Blondin, the tightrope walker, also famously
walked the local reservoir. Here he is atop a
4m plinth to walk Birmingham’s inner ring road.
He strides out to link up the two halves of
Ladywood that were separated by the busy dual carriageway.
The sculpture also works as
an informal sign, directing traffic to the shopping
area.
